jd Hansen's World Food Prize Commission "The Planting"

WFP"The Planting", a new sculpture by jd Hansen, was commissioned by The World Food Prize Foundation in Des Moines, Iowa. The World Food Prize has embarked on a $29.8 million capital project to restore the century-old Des Moines Public Library Building as the Dr. Norman E. Borlaug Hall of Laureates Museum.

"The Planting" is a bronze sculpture mounted on a granite pedestal depicting the earliest female farmers of Sumer/Mesopotamia. The artwork is a total of 8ft high. jd is immeasurably proud to be a part of this endeavor.

Open to the public, the Hall of Laureates will serve as a museum to recognize great achievements in agriculture, and will be a convocation center at which to hold the World Food Prize International Symposium - the Borlaug Dialogue. Past speakers at the World Food Prize include Hillary Clinton, Bill Gates, Kofi Annan, Bob Dole, and Howard Buffett, among other notable humanitarians.

jd will be attending this year's Symposium & Grand Opening of the museum in October and will be giving a Salon in Des Moines following the event.

About the World Food Prize:
Dr. Norman E. Borlaug, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1970 for his work in world agriculture, envisioned a prize that would honor those who have made significant and measurable contributions to improving the world's food supply. Beyond recognizing these people for their personal accomplishments, Borlaug saw The Prize as a means of establishing role models who would inspire others. His vision was realized when The World Food Prize was created in 1986.

A Window Between Worlds Event at Bergamot Station!

Last night was a great evening for the A Window Between Worlds Event at the Bergamot Station! It was a nice crowd that came out to support this great cause which is a non-profit organization dedicated to using art to help end domestic violence. Through creative expression, battered women and children recover a sense of renewal and power. Their images of hope, survival and strength educate the public and become "a window between worlds" for survivors taking steps to change their lives.
